Simon Shovlar, protagonist of the month

This month’s protagonist is Simon Shovlar, former captain of Amarilla Golf’s members in 2013 and 2019, and organizer, for many years, of one of Tenerife’s most important beneficial tournament.

Native from Swindon, United Kingdom, Simon and his girlfriend Karoline (which is now his wife), came to Tenerife in 2000, where their daughters Josie (17 years old) and Molly (14 years old) were born. His adventure in Amarilla Golf begun in 2009, as the course was offering a competitive level of golf that appealed him.

In 2013, he started to collaborate and became organizer of the famous John Lowe Classic beneficial tournament, which celebrates its 16th edition this year. Thanks to its great popularity and the effort put in its organization, the event is sold out every year way before the date of the tournament. The players, mostly British, fly directly from the United Kingdom to take part in it.

Since its beginnings, the tournament has a beneficial orientation, and helped to collect around 100 000€ for different causes.  A collaborator who stands out is the Foundation ÁMATE – the breast cancer association of Tenerife, for which a total of  62.997,50€ was raised. Karoline, Simon’s wife, has also actively collaborated to this cause, and even had her hair cut during the event of 2017 to collect money for the breast cancer victims.

In fact, Simon’s wife, Karoline, cut her hair in 2017 after collecting money for the cause.

Apart from the golf, Simon is a big fan of the Swindon football team, which he follows with great enthusiasm.

About his professional side, he is the creator of his own business in the tourism sector:  tenerifegolfconcierge.com

One of Simon’s most memorable experience in Amarilla Golf was when he accomplished a hole in one in the old 18th hole. His wife Karoline, who never sees him play, was by chance standing on the other side of the ravine and she watched the ball enter in the hole.
