A Tribute to our friend Yvonne Gilbert

Amarilla’s family has lost a lovely Scotish Lady

If you ask anybody who Yvonne Gilbert was each one would describe her to you very differently, depending on the relationship they had with her... to some she was a great mother to Alan and his wife Eilidh, and adorable grandmother to Sophie and Rachel; to others she was a golfer who loved her golf, when she was a younger woman she had a low handicap - she was member of many golf clubs in Scotland and here in Tenerife.

She was also a very successful business woman who ran a property letting Company in Aberdeen for over 30 years.

But at the end of the day, everyone would agree on Yvonne’s Enormous Heart. She was a very charitable person who helped many organization and people both here in Tenerife and in Scotland. AMATE was a charitable association very close to her heart which fights for Breast Cancer survivors.

One of the Amarilla family has gone to join her husband Douglas who died in 2015. Both were members at Amarilla Golf since 2011 and loved playing with the members in their competitions when they were here at their home in Tenerife.

They had a house on the 8th Fairway of Amarilla Golf where the Scottish flag flew when she was in residence. At major competitions she opened her back gate to give the foreballs a bacon roll and a glass of Moët & Chandon (she insisted on getting champagne and not Cava!).

Lastly we feel Yvonne was a great fighter against her unfair illness.

She played a huge part in our club and will be missed by all who knew her and loved her.

Good night Yvonne xxx
